To slow the pandemic's progress, Brazil would need to apply at least one million doses of the vaccine against Covid-19 per day. The evaluation is by Epidemiologist Pedro Hallal (ALAL), former dean of the Federal University of Pelotas, in Rio Grande do Sul. Hallal, who is the author of one of the main studies on the progress of the disease in the country, explains that, if we had bought the vaccines, we could end the pandemic in Brazil in 200 days. With vaccination at a slow pace and without restriction of circulation of the virus, the result is what we are seeing today: collapse and the possibility of mutation of the virus. The epidemiologist also believes that, at the current rate of vaccination, younger people, in their 40s, for example, should only receive their dose at the end of 2021, or at the beginning of next year. Therefore, the doctor evaluates as positive the measure that allows states and municipalities to purchase vaccines.
