Brazil is the 5th country that most applied vaccines against Covid-19, but the 59th in the ranking proportional to the population and the 62nd in speed of application of the doses. USA, Israel and Chile stand out.

The world surpassed the mark of 400 million doses of vaccines against Covid-19 applied, according to data "Our World in Data" on Thursday (18).

The countries that stand out the most are the United States, Israel and Chile. The USA is the country with the most doses applied, Israel has already administered more doses than the country's population and Chile is the one with the highest vaccination rate on the planet (see details below).

The United States leads the race for immunization in absolute numbers, with 113 million doses applied. Following are China (65 million), India (37 million), the United Kingdom (27 million) and Brazil (12.6 million).

Completing the top 10: Turkey (12.1 million), Germany (9.8 million), Israel (9.5 million), Russia (7.8 million) and Chile (7.7 million).

Despite occupying the 5th position in total doses applied, Brazil is only 59th in the proportional ranking of vaccination, which takes into account the total population, and 62nd in the rate of immunization.

Proportional ranking

Brazil has applied 5.97 doses per 100 inhabitants so far, a level similar to that of the Dominican Republic (6.22), Panama (6.17), Argentina (5.9) and Latvia (5.37).

Israel continues to lead the proportional ranking, with 110 vaccines applied per 100 inhabitants.

The country has more vaccines applied than inhabitants because each person needs to receive two doses of the immunizers (with the exception of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which is a single dose).

They complete the proportional top 5: Seychelles Islands (91 doses per 100 inhabitants), United Arab Emirates (69), Chile (40) and United Kingdom (39).

The USA, which leads in applied doses, is the 10th country in the ranking proportional to the population (33 doses per 100 inhabitants).

Vaccination speed

Our World in Data, linked to the University of Oxford, also tracks the rate of vaccination in countries, measured by the number of doses applied per day in relation to the population.

In this ranking, Brazil occupies the 62nd position, with 0.16 vaccines applied per day for every 100 inhabitants. The pace is similar to that of Croatia (0.18), Panama (0.17) and Colombia, Mexico and Greenland (0.14 each).

The country that proportionally has applied more vaccines per day is Chile, with 1.51 doses applied per day for every 100 inhabitants, almost ten times faster than Brazil.
